A somewhat scattered collection of notes, thoughts and ideas

Tuesday 3 September 2019

Hey, long time no post..

It's been a while since my last post.. I kept thinking "I'll write a new post, I'll write a new post", then stuff (and not necessarily good stuff) got in the way.

Tonight I found myself chatting with a friend and encouraging him to start a blog (Oh Vercesi) because I think having an outlet for thoughts, feelings and ideas can be good. Now though, seeing that my last post was from Feb 2018, I do feel a bit of a hypocrite. Hopefully, the suggestion for him will still be helpful and he'll forgive me on this occasion.

Anyhow, here goes.. pfft, what to say about my time between February 2018 and now, September 2019? Well, for starters, I have another new phone.. This time it's the iPhone XS Max and I absolutely love it. I didn't get rid of my 8 Plus though because it's still in excellent working order and hasn't let me down so therefore the best possible back up phone I could choose.

What else? Well, I'll skip straight to January 2019 and start from there; or maybe it'll require us going back in time to 2017 first.. back in September 2017 two of my friends got married to each other (in fact they've just celebrated their 2nd Wedding Anniversary, so congratulations to them both). I have to admit, I didn't read the Wedding Invitation very well and basically missed the bit about not needing to buy them a present but that donations for their honeymoon would be welcomed. So a couple of weeks before the wedding, I was in Greece on holiday and started browsing the 'net for potential wedding gifts that they wouldn't already have or be given by someone else.

I stumbles upon a box frame design on etsy, notonthehighstreet or a similar site. It was beautiful, personal and exactly the sort of thing I'd want to give them to remember their special day. My plan however was foiled because this particular item stated it would be shipped in 2-3 weeks.. I only had a number of days before the wedding. Then I had a lightbulb moment..

.. If I could get the items myself from Hobbycraft, maybe I could make a frame myself! And so, inadvertently began the idea of Frantastic Gifts. I didn't launch Frantastic Gifts at that point because I hadn't thought of it as more than a one off at that point.

Fast forward to January 2019 and my dad was turning 60, yes that's right, the very ominous big 6-0. Naturally I'd have to give him something to commemorate the occasion (even if he wouldn't be able to collect it in person until several months later). So I made my second frame and thus Frantastic Gifts became official.

To check out some more of my fabulous creations (if I do say so myself) please click the link above to see my insta account dedicated to my makes. To purchase a frame, visit my Etsy store here. It does still need a bit of work, so please bear with me while I tidy it up a bit.

In other news, I'm about to start a new job; as of 23rd September 2019, I'll be working as the Marketing and Communications Officer at Aspire, and more so, to show very willing, I'll also be taking part in the Aspire Channel Swim (ACS) challenge starting next Monday, 9th September, which involves swimming the equivalent length of the English Channel (that's 22 miles) across 12 weeks, in your local swimming pool. I've been swimming this week and last week in preparation for the ACS Challenge. If you'd like to show your support and donate to the cause, please visit my JustGiving page.

Well I think that's us all caught up for now.. stick around for more posts soon :)
